A Practical Partnership with Dr. Kelli Kolar on: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Stitcher | Google Podcasts
Today marks the hundredth episode of our podcast! Today, we discuss the roles that large animal vets are moving into with our very own local vet, Kelli Kolar. Dr. Kolar has been a guest speaker on the CU Profit Finder, and helps in a large capacity at our She’s a Hand Ranch Camp. Join us as she and Karoline discuss topics from what factors to consider when choosing a vet, to Dr. Kolar’s honest point of view on vet and producer relationships.
Dr. Kolar was raised on a cattle ranch in Raynesford, Montana. She completed her undergraduate studies at Montana State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science. At MSU she gained experience in bovine and equine reproduction, and advanced education in equine management and beef cattle management. After MSU, Dr. Kolar attended veterinary school at Colorado State University and upon graduation, she returned home to practice veterinary medicine and help run the family ranch. In June 2022, Dr. Kolar formed South Peak Veterinary Services in order to be able to focus more on her passion for large animal medicine and work closer to the family ranch. Her special interests include beef cattle herd health, equine sports medicine, equine dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and preventative medicine in all species.
In this episode we cover:
Skills that Kelli would love to see producers have to benefit themselves, the animals, and their veterinarians.
Medications that she recommends producers have on hand at any given time.
Understanding drug resistance and what new mandates will affect access to certain drug types.
The consulting roles that vets are continuing to play.
