Using Your Unique Voice to Advocate for Agriculture with Courtenay DeHoff
On today’s episode we visit with Courtenay DeHoff. Courtenay is a cowgirl turned television personality, keynote speaker and podcast host. In 2020, DeHoff launched the global brand movement Fancy Lady Cowgirl ™ after struggling to fit the traditional cowgirl mold. Drawing criticism from those in the very communities she was advocating for, she labeled herself a ‘Fancy Lady Cowgirl’ proclaiming you can be both a little fancy and a little ranchy. Through storytelling and fashion Fancy Lady Cowgirl is working to bridge the gap between urban and rural cultures.
In this episode we’ll cover:
- How entrepreneurship isn’t always glamorous and most success doesn’t happen overnight
- The power of sweat equity
- The importance of sharing the story of agriculture
- Proof that appearance doesn’t matter; it’s about what you can do and who you are, not about what you look like
- The digital series Backroad Cowgirls - how it started, what its mission is, and where it’s going
